Realms in Edreoll refer to something similar to alternate dimensions existing in the same space. Each realm in Edreoll has different environmental properties. Each realm will affect the player differently, even if the player has become a Spirit (has died).
The four Realms are: Physical, Spirit, Voidal, and Purity. When players are first created, they are placed in the Purity Realm, in which they then traverse to the Physical Realm to begin their adventure.
The Physical Realm is the place where most of the game-play takes place. Players can exist in this realm freely with no penalty, unless they are killed and turned into a Spirit. The Physical Realm's environmental properties are similar to that of Earth's. For example, Players must come up for air when underwater, unless a passive ability allows them to breathe while they are under.
The Purity Realm is built of all elements meshed together to create the Pure element. In this scenario, players slowly refill Life and AP while in this realm. Players are composed of all elements, which is why this realm allows players to be able to do this. The great Towers of the Heavens exist here in this realm, where the four Elemental Guardians exist. Players should come back to the Purity Realm often to seek advice and new abilities from the Elemental Guardian that govern's that player's element.
The Spirit Realm is a place where beings go to die. However, the Spirit Realm is not a place of darkness and evil (at least, not in most places). When a being is killed in the Physical Realm, its spirit has a limited time until the Spheara is dissolved from the Spirit's frame. At that point, the Spirit is then transferred to the Spirit Realm where the frame can exist without the need of Spheara.
If currently living players went to the Spirit Realm, their life would slowly be sapped from their body. A player cannot be revived if killed in the Spirit Realm. Because killed creatures are sent to the Spirit Realm when their Spheara is dissolved, being killed in the Spirit Realm removes the time in which it is possible to be revived. Players who die and are sent to the Spirit Realm must pay a fee to return to the Physical Realm.
The Voidal Realm is a network of tunnels that stretch between the Physical and Spirit Realms. They were once used as transport between these two realms, but were abandoned because of the strangely dangerous environmental properties as well as the creatures that originate from it. In order for a Voidal Tunnel to be created, one must first learn Voidal Magic. Then, one must know how to tear open a portal in either the Physical or Spirit Realms. These are called Voidal Scars. Voidal Scars can only be destroyed if one knows Pure Magic, Putting a scar's threads back together is called Scar Weaving. Both of these highly dangerous methods are considered illegal in all of Tellurah. Each Voidal Scar in either realm warrants an entrance for The Curse to seep through.
This realm is a dangerous place for any living thing to exist in. Not only does it sap the Life of any creature, but also the Ability (AP). Players must take extreme caution while trekking this realm, because being killed here will destroy the player's entire entity and cannot be brought back. The player would ultimately need to start over should this happen.
However, players who wear a Gaedil Necklace will be sent to the Spirit Realm if they die, at the cost of the necklace itself.
